Goa Cabo De Rama |
Goa Cabo de Rama, is a place of worth visiting. Not only because of the surrounding landscape but for the architectural grandeurs the Portuguese fort is worthy to visit.
Goa Cabo De Rama is located at the tip of a rocky headland and is one of the relics of Goa's former status as a Portuguese colony. The main outer wall of the fort has survived many attacks but is surprisingly intact . However , there is not much left of the inside except for a guardhouse and the shell of what must have been a chapel. At one corner of the building there is a tower with a stunning view of the sea and the coast beyond. You can also see a heavy muzzle loading cannon on one side.
The headland upon which Goa Cabo De Rama is set , envelops a beautiful and wild landscape, with huge areas of terraced fields of the deep red earth common in Goa. Travelers can witness cliffs of dark volcanic rock interspersed with patches of tough looking grass. In general the area is uninhabited with the exception of one or two villages at a distance. To your surprise you will find stark, barren look in the land in harsh contrast with the rest of Goa's lush green and gentle landscape.
A couple of kilometers before reaching the fort, you will come across a small cove with a patch of beach at the bottom of a steep, rocky cliff which is shaded by a few clutching leaves of palms . There's no fixed path, and it takes about 10 minutes of trial and error to get to the bottom. You can take this path to break the monotony of the journey.
